This week, Habitat Montco was pleased to have a group of volunteers from Assumption College take our "Collegiate Chapter Challenge" !
In the last ten years, students from Assumption College have returned to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County faithfully each year, where they have spent their Spring Break helping to complete home renovations, assist with the construction of new housing projects, and even lend a hand at the #ReStore. This year, the volunteer team spent the week at our construction site in Bridgeport, PA where they helped to build 4x4 frames, and install vinyl siding on one of the new townhomes currently being built.
For the volunteer group, this year's "Collegiate Challenge" was especially memorable. On site at Bridgeport, these students not only had the opportunity to meet one of Habitat's future Home-Buyers, but also work together with Veteran Dustin Gray to frame the house he will soon purchase this Spring. Working together with a Home-Buyer in the construction phase, the students had a chance to see how the time they spend on site truly changes the lives of the families we serve in Montgomery County.
Throughout the challenge, the volunteers demonstrated outstanding skill and attention to instruction. We were so impressed by their level of hard work, and how quickly they learned to use power tools. Altogether, this year's "Collegiate Chapter Challenge" was a great success! We are grateful to have the support of Assumption College this year and hope to see them again next Spring!
